The title line of my subject "Vacation - All I ever wanted" was from a
Go-Gos song from around 1983 or so. That's what I was referring to when I
said 80's time warp.
I'm aware that the Guess Who broke up in 1975 when Burton left for a solo
career. In 1983 my music buddies didn't know the difference between the Who
and the Guess Who, although one that did noted that they both covered Shakin
All Over. BTW, I thought they put on a good show and sounded excellent. Randy
Bachman is one of my favorite guitar players of all time.
The reason I refer to Marianne Faithful's Broken English as a guilty pleasure
is because when that record came out, my then anal-retentive music friends
(as opposed to the ones I have now) used to refer to her as the junkie whore
that couldn't get a job at Dunkin' Donuts if she didn't fuck a Rolling Stone,
let alone put out a record. 1979 1980 who cares? If her appearance on SNL is
the one I was thinking of, she was a mess, but then again many great bands
played on Saturday Night Live and sounded horrible (think Rolling Stones
doing Respectable). I happen to like the Broken English album. Haven't heard
it in a long time, but I still like it, especially the backing musicians she
had.
