[bomp] The Pattern etc

>Just wondered if folks have heard The Pattern's new album Real feelness. It's
>a good garage punk album. LIve they're supposed to be great.

I like the album okay, but when I saw them here in London a couple of weeks
ago the support group The Beatings pissed all over 'em. But the fact is
that a year ago when I saw The Pattern for the first time I thought they
were excellent - but now there are so many new "garage" bands in the UK,
many of them very good, that my standards are creeping ever upwards...

> suppose that's the other thing...only on THIS list do i hear about the
> GARAGE REVIVAL anymore....out in the real world, ppl are talking about ROCK

Absolutely. Some here are calling it 'new rock'n'roll' cos the Hives, White
Stripes, Vines, etc all have a certain something going on which is
different from the usual top 40 dross. They all rock. Hey, the press always
like to pigeon-hole stuff don't they? But in this instance I don't mind cos
it's giving the music scene a real kick up the arse. I put on a new trio
called The Blood Group last Friday on a friend's recommendation. They were
amazing! Every week I'm coming across new groups who've been spurred on by
the Hives and White Stripes to start making some cool sounds. (Some will be
calling them bandwagon-jumpers but if they're making the right kinda noise,
with true enthusiasm and a love for what they're doing then it's fine with
me.)

> used to going to. It was damned obvious that they'd never heard "Fight
> Fire", "Je Cherche", The Equals, etc., but it was equally clear it just
> didn't matter. One girl asked me if this happened all the time, exclaiming,
> "These DJs are FANTASTIC!"

A similar thing is happening over here too. But, I noticed on Friday night
that a lot of 'em seem to know the songs - especially the ones on the
Nuggets box. They might have gotten into the sounds through the Hives or
Stripes but a lot of 'em are actually digging deeper.
