At the moment I'm reading Alan Clayson's "Hamburg: the cradle of british
rock" and he speaks of Kingsize Taylor (or was it Tony Sheridan?) playing a
version of the song with really dirty lyrics ... now how could you dirty up
this tune?

Agreed, I was always under the impression that after Caroline, No was
released as a single under Brian's name and flopped that the label pushed to
have Sloop John B included in the hope that Pet Sounds would sell with a
degree of familiarity.
