I was sarcastically quoting what everybody else says (in retrospect) when
they defend Culture Club. I think I vaguely remember Dave Marsh writing
something like that when they were around (something like "forget how Boy
George looks and concentrate on his voice"). Myself, when it comes to Culture
Club, "my name is Wes and I ain't in this mess." For me to call Boy George a
fine neo-soul singer from the bottom of my OWN heart would be GENEROUS,
believe me!! Maybe I shoulda said "SUPPOSEDLY a fine singer" or "HIS FANS SAY
HE IS a fine singer."
And as far as the tossed-off "no-talent" comment of mine...don't take it
literally. Remember, I was writing about a genre of music I normally despise,
so it was my poetic license to talk shit.
