Re: [bomp] Dave Clark 5/Steve
Believe it or not, NYC is the home of two saxophone-playin' Steve
Greenfields. Back when I was in college I actually did a jazz band rehearsal
with that other guy, he had done many gigs with the guy who is playing
trumpet on my new CD. Small world.
If you heard him playing sax, you'd freakin' hate it. He first got known
playing with Gary's Gang, a '70s disco band, and has generally stuck around
the mainstream funk & fusion scene ever since (or is that fuckin' fusion?).
You know, that professional stuff, the kind you hear on commercial jingles,
which is still where he makes most of his living.
When I was still living in town I even received phone calls from producers
looking for an address to send him his checks, but since he is a friend of a
very good friend, I told them the ugly truth: "Yeah, I'm Steve Greenfield
the Sax Player, but if you're calling about having a session and/or royalty
check, you must be looking for the other guy!" Of course I'm much better
looking...
Steve
