[bomp] Keep On Rhonda

Me:
<<< 'Beach Boys Today' came (before The Gentrys' "Keep On Dancin'"). >>>

<<< Strange, I always thought "Keep on Dancin'" was from 1964. >>>

Its first release was in the Spring of 1965 on the small Youngstown label...and then was released again (same recording) in August 1965 on MGM (this being the issue that became the national hit in the fall of 1965). In fact, "Keep On Dancin'" was not even The Gentrys' first 1965 release, which is worth noting when taking into account that the 'Today' version of "Help Me Rhonda" was recorded in January 1965.

But either way, I just remember the first time I ever heard the 'Today' version...on my Music For Pleasure '20 Golden Greats' LP (translated, 'Endless Summer' on one record instead of two)...and, after getting past the "This isn't the version I've heard" thoughts, I remember, at those fadeups and downs, thinking "What the hell????" ;>
