I've never had the pleasure of seeing Jay live, but he sure kicked arse on
one of the PBS oldies begathons a couple years ago. After apologizing for
not having the same powerful voice at 65+ as he'd once had in his 20s, he
proceeded to tear into a rendition of "Cara Mia" that easily matched, if not
topped, the original recording.
A while back I saw an A&E Biography on some mafiosa--Paul Castellano I
think--on which Jay was one of the talking heads. They didn't credit him as
a "singer" or even an "entertainer," but as the subject's "friend."
