Actually, while I do dig the original Lee and Nancy treatment, the re-make
by the Love Delegation on their "Spread The Word" LP is superior IMHO.
Either way, I really hope Little Steven and company have the good sense to
team up Nancy Sinatra with Peter Zaremba (of the Fleshtones and Love
Delegation) for this classic tune at the Randall's Island Underground Garage
fest. It would be a super-cool way to bring both versions together.
BTW, I know what you mean about time changes that seem to interupt one's
enjoyment of a song. While I think Some Velvet Morning works fine, I don't
particularly like the Fuzztones' new treatment of "Don't Blow Your Mind"
with its lurching fast and slower parts. Gimme the Spiders' original
anytime over this mis-step by the 'Tones. I should add however, that Rudi
and co. do a great job with "The Face Of Time" (by the Plague from my
hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario). Most of the rest of their latest CD,
"Salt For Zombies" is also damn good dark garage-psych.
Squirrly.
