[bomp] Dirty Water this Friday

Friday 13th August

at The Boston, Tufnell Park, London

THE BEAT UP you may have previously known as THE BEATINGS - they were forced
to change their name due to there being an American band also calling
themselves The Beatings. (I thought they should have changed their name to
The Boston Beatings, but...) Anyway, these four young men from London9s east
end claim to have met on the set of an S&M/porn/horror movie called The
Hangman9s Head and have a sound that has been described as being akin to
3hurtling down the Arizona Interstate with a dashboard stuffed with bad
truckstop drugs and with the Stooges, Mudhoney and ZZ Top trussed up in the
trailer2. With a couple of singles (both sold out) of crunching dual guitar
punk9n9roll on the Fantastic Plastic label, produced by Kevin Shields no
less, the boys have been working hard on their debut album which ought to
see the light of day very soon.

THE STILLETOS - - Real rock9n9roll is back with a vengeance in the
Netherlands if this garage-punk trio is anything to go by. But, they say,
3it9s only rock9n9roll. A lifestyle? What a laugh! Drinking beer, smoking
dope, snorting assorted drugs, watching apathetically how some bands work
their ass off is not a life style. Working nine to five from Monday to
Friday is a life style. Rock9n9roll provides an escape from that work-a-day
world!2 Being in a band is 3an escape route from everyday boredom and
hassles, like trying to find a place to park your car,
television-manufactured rockstars and politicians desperately struggling,
trying to find new enemies. The real enemies are within ourselves. Let9s all
love one another, without touching each other9s bottoms, and have some fun!2

LOS CHICOS
Out of Madrid, Spain, this is a six-man rock9n9roll machine constructed from
the best parts of real R&B, garage rock, pub9n9punk rock...and gospel. Yes,
it9s their pure faith in the powers of amplification and alcohol that saw
them on their last visit to the UK get a room of 200 sinners down on to
their knees before taking each and every one of em straight outta the
venue, and making a party in the nearby McDonalds, leaving mayhem in their
wake.

COMANECHI
Cutesy Japanese girl on drums, posho English boy on guitar, bluesey-punk
noise and screaming and stuff. More raw than the White Stripes, better
looking than the Black Keys...
