I will personally kick the ass of any person out there who belittles Ron
"Pigpen" McKernan!   He was the heart and soul of the Dead, think the Brian
Jones!
  He was the real blues man in the group, played both organs...hamond b3 and
harmonica.   All of the awesome live blues tracks that the Dead did back in
the pre-1972 era was Pigpen on lead.   If you want to hear some of the
greatest
mid-song singing/patter/story telling check out "Good Love" from the April 17,
1971 gig at Princeton...sold the Brooklyn Bridge.

I was very upset that the movie "Festival Express" didn't feature Pigpen as a
lead singer because I never got to see him live and never seen any live
video.

Look, I discovered blues by listening to the Dead, Canned Heat, John Mayall,
Alexis Korner and the like...and it all lead me back to the original
bluesmen.
