I wouldn't start with the 'Gee Baby Gee' comp, then...
there's tons of other comps that would be a better place
to start. -Bryan T.
We just had a thread about what a good starter kit for the Girl Group genre
would be, I suggested this old TV album called SUPER GIRLS with 1980 leather
jacket and motorcylce models on the covers, real Olivia Newton John-goes-New
Wave looking but the three record set on the inside is pretty definitive. Rhino
did a pretty good Girl Group series on LP, not sure if that's transferred to a
CD release. The best thing, really, is to nab a copy of PRESENTING THE
FABULOUS RONETTES or both albums by the Shangri La's and work your way out from
there. The Cookies, solo records by their singer Earl Jean, and THE LOCCOMOTION
album by Little Eva are all pretty great too because that may be some of the
best Goffin/King stuff. I wrote the liners to a CD called DIMENSION DOLLS that
should be out by now on Sundazed that covers a lot of that Goffin/King
ground, actually.
