[bomp] Anthem/Monterey

<<< As opposed, to be fair, to records like "Anthem of the Sun," which shows how very AWFUL a record a band in the exact same situation can deliver... >>>

I don't think 'Anthem Of The Sun' is completely awful. It has a bit of drek, indeed (the whole noise collage in the middle goes on way too long, I think. I think it needs to be there in concept with the album, but it could have been just as effective with several minutes reduced.

And I rarely play the album past the end of "Alligator" (or what *I* consider the end of "Alligator" even if it's not the end of the track...just before the jam part kicks in).

But all the other parts (ie the songs) I think are quite good.

<<< over the last couple of weeks I've been checking out that archive site
that I posted the link to pretty heavily and liked most of what i've burnt to cdr. ttp://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?cat=Grateful%20Dead .... Both the MOnterey and Woodstock Festival sets are up there and both have pretty good stuff in them. >>>

My fave part of the Montery Pop set is when Peter Tork (yes, Laura, PETER TORK!) comes out to tell people to stop breaking down the place to see The Beatles. But the version of "Alligator" there is horrible. (Pigpen, put that harmonica down!!!!).
