[bomp] dead

Who ever said it about the first Dead album is right. It was pretty
punky to my ears at the time. I was stunned when I saw them in '68 and
it was just a long crappy version of Alligator. I didn't listen to them
again for ages. Funny thing was Kim Fowley was at this fest in San Jose
handing out "hog" er... PCP. He was pretty annoying then.

As for Anthem, you have to get the original release. All the subsequent
releases and cds are the bland remix Garcia did. They took a perfectly
good weird record and took all the weird out.

Agreed Airplane were a whole different deal. Good! Country Joe were good
fun, and good too, but not nearly as good players as JA.

Also good to hear some of you got to enjoy Roy Loney at the Rockaround.
He is a big music fan. He told me he had a great time, and was thrilled
to pose for loads of pix. He's a great guy to talk with. I felt like a
friend when I first met him lo these thirty years ago. After all this
time, he's just become part of the family. When ever we meet up we try
and make time to hang with him, go to movies , and eat breakfast (his
favorite meal). Plus the guy knows his music, film and all aspects of
pop culture. Just get him started....
