[bomp] Sonic Stones

Dom says...
<<< Those early Rolling Stones records sound fantastic if you listen to it on gear compatible with what was state-of-the-art in 1964-1965. And, oh, gee, its too bad the Rolling Stones sound RAW? What's with this? >>>

Firstly I *never* said anything about "rawness"...never used the word "raw" at all, so kindly don't put words in my mouth....okay? Secondly, I'm talking about lack of low end (as Rob B. rightly said). I'm talking about a dampness ("damp" is a word I *did* use) caused by a little too much compression. I'm talking about drums badly miked. I'm talking about guitar amps that sound like transistor radios....none of which were problematic on the June 1964 Chess sessions. Yes, in addition to the CDs I have mono copies of all the LPs, with vintage playback equipment as well as a portable record player, (After all, how many Rolling Stones fans in 1964/65 do you think had "state of the art" equipment?) and I still don't like the overall sound of the RCA material...particularly when compared to the Chess stuff.
