not that i know of!! the book i was talking about is "nankering with the
rolling stones" by james phelge, who used to live with mick, keith, and brian
in the early days, this was in their notoriously squalid flat in edith grove.
phelge is the guy whose name they borrowed for those spurious "nanker-phelge"
credited tracks on the early LPs. i haven't started the book yet, but this
looks to be one of those rare rock & roll memoirs by someone who was actually
there that tells something like the balanced truth, and humanizes the people
involved. pete shotton's "john lennon in my life" is another one, an
affectionate-but-not-sugarcoated insider's version of stuff. the shotton book
is, IMHO, the best of the beatles memoirs - there are some gut-bustingly
hilarious stories in there, i particularly remember one about pete and john
pushing over an improvised latrine at a construction site, and sending the
unfortunate crapper down 6 feet into a ditch full of poop.
