[bomp] Colorado's coolest band?

 what a
fender showman amplifier means to surf music.

Pretty much everything. The RARITIES has all kinds of Surf instrumental
Astronauts cuts that were never out in the '60s. I believe there is also a twofer
of SURFIN' WITH THE ASTRONAUTS/COMPETITION COUPE. These two purchases, for
me, sum up the group, though I know some Garage people dig their post Surf
stuff... and "Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day" was a cool hit single. I think
they're a fine Garage band, but head over heels better than most bands who did
Surf music.

They also had two rhythm guitars... one wet with reverb, the other dry, plus
Rich Fifield's lead guitar was just drenched with reverb. Their drummer did
some interesting stuff, too, by the way, just real off-kilter drumming there.

On their later album GO WITH THE ASTRONAUTS, they get in a couple of instros,
which for them, by that time, was retro. But I used to always DJ their
version of "Quiet Village" at Cafe Dunord in a set with the ones by Les Baxter,
Martin Denny plus the El Chicano version.
