I've got a lot of old surveys (on my PC rather than on paper) and I haven't
come up with any with "Try It"--except for the Ohio Express version, which
was mainly in the east. On the other hand, at KHJ "Dirty Water" reached #5,
"Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" also hit #5 (and #1 at KIST in Santa
Barbara), and "Why Pick on Me" got to #12 (and at least to #9 at KBLA).
Also, in 1964, before KHJ existed, "Help Yourself" got to at least #14 at
KRLA and "Linda Lu" made at least #37.
They must have been superstars in L.A. early on - in '64, the short-haired
Standells lipsynched "Help Yourself" on AMERICAN BANDSTAND. There's also a
video clip of the kids on the same show dancing to "LInda Lu" (on the episode
with the Spats and Jerry Lee Lewis).
