[bomp] great drumming
for some reason, it seems like a lot of the stuff that i have been listening to
over the past few days has fucking incredible drumming...i'm not sure why, but
i've really been noticing the drums lately...a couple of tracks with PERFECT
drumming:
- "let it bleed" - stones. this could be charlie's finest hour...effortless
swing, grace, economy, and balls.
- "run run run" - the velvet underground. this is about as punk-rock as you can
get, totally primitive and hypnotic. mickey hart can go piss up a flag
pole...this is a perfect example of, once in a while, LACK of schooling becomes
a stylisitic asset.
- "ticket to ride" - beatles. angular & circular at the same time...this is
almost like a loop. my favorite part in this is how, in the third verse, after
the "she's got a ticket to ride" line, there's that single snare crack.
perfect.
- "wasn't it you" - the action. the genius of the drumming on this track
totally amazes me, this is like the stripped down charlie/ringo style combined
with the flash and acrobatics of keith moon...but never getting into that
virtuosic shit, the drumming is always in support of the song. roger powell is
extremely underrated.
anybody got some favorite drumming they'd care to share??
