[bomp] Re: bomp-digest V2003 #999

Matt-

They are talking about the "DeArmond Tone Pedal". This was sort of popular before the Wah. Jeff Beck used it on some Yardbirds things. Who ever plays on The Crying
Game (Jim Sullivan) used it there to good effect. On the Beatles, which one is it George used it on, It's Only Love maybe?

Richard Treece, who play on our records told me about these. He said he'd had one in the 60's, but foolishly sold it, cause it was difficult to work. He suggested I
look out for one. I finally found one of these a couple of years ago at a music store in Mandan North Dakota. (I was there to visit my mother in-law at Christmas)
They also had a Fender model, but the sound wasn't nearly as good. The one I got is a Volume-Tone pedal. If you work it up and down, it's volume, but it you swing
it side to side it's a real deep tone pot. On some guitars you can get about the same effect if you work the tone control as you play. This just makes it easier.
Well it's suppose to. It's tricky getting a good smooth movement twisting your ankle side to side.

This sound was always a mystery to me on those records.
