[bomp] what's the basic thing behind Helyar's claim?
but the
best--and a scathing indictment against the Dodgers "brain"trust-- is to be
found in the superb The Lords Of The Realm by John Helyar, a detailed look
at ownership, racism, liars, and fuckwads who can't count to twenty without
being naked--the owners in other words.
NOW, I've heard of those other two books, but not seen this one. Yes, it was
Branch Rickey who broke the color barrier w/ Jackie Robinson, but... were the
Dodgers NOT the most integrated team of the '50s.... and... the best National
Leauge team of that decade? (Kudos, though, to the '57 and '58 Braves)...
