For those of you outside this area: no other individual was ever given such 
complete and total power over any metropolitan area's planning, zoning, 
infranstructure and appearance than Robert Moses.  And no one ever did a worse job at 
it either.  Nor did anyone ever make such an impenetrable mess of things 
(usually for personal gain, or that of his cronies) that it could only be 
rectified by burning down an entire city and all its suburbs, sweeping the ashes away 
and starting the fkk over.

If you come to NYC, and see something that doesn't make any sense -- a 
highway interchange, a collection of buildings, a blind intersection, some badly 
used park space -- and it looks like it's between 35 and 55 years old --

he did it.

Robert Moses did more harm to this city than Osama Bin Laden.

(I erased and re-wrote that last sentence three times, because I know how 
awful that sounds -- but y'know what?  It's the truth.)
