I definitely see some Quo-tas in Spinal Tap...and just as an aside, in their 
biography that comes with the soundtrack album, isn't one of their records 
called "Matchstick Men?"

But as for the individual Tappers and who I think they're modeled after, I 
always saw it as...

Nigel Tufnel...Jeff Beck. 

Derek Smalls...John Entwistle.

David Saint Hubbins...Mick Jagger (not as obvious to me as the above two, but 
I do see some of Jagger's traits/personality in DSH.)
