[bomp] blowing doors with the Searchers
Subject: [bomp] R.I.P. Chris Curtis
Farewell to Black Jake. Some very sad news I only just found out about a few
minutes ago. This is from CNN.

The Searchers drummer Curtis dies
Tuesday, March 1, 2005 Posted: 1901 GMT (0301 HKT)
LONDON, England (AP) -- Chris Curtis, drummer with 1960s "Merseybeat" combo
The Searchers at the height of its fame, has died, colleagues said Tuesday.
He was 63.
THIS IS A REAL BUMMER, surely an overlooked guy. At the 1964 New Musical
Express Pollwinners concert, he gives one of the most rockin' performances ever
captured on videotape/film by a British artist... right up there with the
Rolling Stones on that same show or The T.A.M.I. Show, the Beatles on several things
and Sounds Incorporated in the Shea Stadium film, which Curtis matches
practially all by himself with the Searchers providing the backing. Totally wyld, I
like him for other things, but this moment stands out and if you have a
videotape copy of that 1964 New Musical Express Pollwinners Concert, just play his
crazy closer, and realize that the audience is too dull for words (same goes
for their reaction to that killer Rolling Stones set). Too bad the Searchers
weren't at The T.A.M.I. Show to get the reaction Chris truly deserved for that
rave-up.
