As a major Fitzgerald geek, I prefer the stuff he was writing in the 30s to
the stuff that he did in the 20, though Gatsby would be my favorite novel by
anyone who didn't write Tender Is The Night.

That said, yeh, the Marx Brothers too were a '20s phenomenon on the New York
stage... which counted then. The films were a continuation during the 30s.
That's what someone I once knew called "leftover"... like, when we saw
designs in the early '70s that were really cool and more evocative of the
mid-'60s... she called that "leftover '60s".
The same can be said, Brent Walker, of "leftover" Victorian era stuff that
did still exist during the '20s... Sure, they didn't get it "right," but maybe
we can just sum that up to "retro" not being that well-defined of a thing yet.
