Re: [bomp] Re: noir
With all this talk of noir, I gotta mention the obvious, namely, if you like
that stuff at ALL and haven't seen "Sin City" yet, GO. Frankly, I liked it
better than "Kill Bill" vol's 1 & 2--and I LOVED those films (that film?)
for stealing from like a million of my favorite films and for featuring not
only Sonny Chiba, Gordon Liu AND the 5-6-7-8's. "Sin City" is RELENTLESS
noir; it was also VERY cool in that, just as the comic books were hugely
influenced by noir and "Citizen Kane" (Will Eisner wrote at length about how
he and his peers watched that repeatedly and how it influenced their whole
visual sense of storytelling), this is the first time I've seen a film
translate a comic book to the screen where I really felt that comics had had
an equally significant and successful impact BACK on the film medium, Tim
Burton not withstanding.
