And the whole counterculture/pop art era brought a

decades. I already mentioned how
Buster Keaton in his old age finally got the
recognition that was due him, and the same was true
with the Marxes. The Goons were probably
the missing link, albeit their influence didn't really
hit America until
after Sellers was an international star. 

BTW, was the puppet animation series, "The Telegoons",
ever
shown on US TV? I'd think it would have been,
considering Sellers'
prominence by then. 

While on this topic, I remember a story about how
there was this 
revival theatre on Western Ave. run by early
hippie/countercultural
types, which was the first theatre to show Warhol
films and stuff
like that. Anyways, during the Batman craze of '66,
they showed
the 40s Batman serial in its entirety, but mixed it
with early Swedish
hardcore shorts - which really shook up parents who'd
taken their
kids there......
