Re: [bomp] New York dolls

That CD is awesome. It is by far the clearest, most well-produced live recording of the NY Dolls (well, what was left of them anyway). Did you really think someone could walk into the shoes of Johnny Thunders and sound just like him?

I base the above comments on the fact that I too have all their legally-released albums and over two dozen bootlegs of the Dolls from 1973-2005...all of which are now on CD-R.

Incidently, the recording to which you refer is mainly taken from the second night of the two night/show reunion as it was the slightly better of the two nights. I plan to upload the unreleased performances sometime soon.

Read this and several other positive reviews of recent NY Dolls
appearances on this list and just wandering what gives - I haven't seen
any of them, but I am a huge NY Dolls fan, their first album is one of my favorite ever, and I have everything I have ever seen by them for sale anywhere. However, I got the recent live CD from what I guess was their first "comeback" show, at the Royal Festival Hall (?) in England, and I thought it was terrible. No way will I ever listen to that disk again, it really just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Now I know seeing bands live in person is better, and I'm sure David
Johansen would be fun to watch if he still vamping like back in the day,
but if it is a good performance I should be able to hear it on the audio
track, and I just didn't hear it. Am I missing something? Did anyone
else like this CD?
