I missed some of the posts on this thread so these might have been mentioned, but I figure I'd chime in anyway.

Two very prominent mainstream hits from extremely non-garage/beat artists that feature fuzz guitar, and show the widespread influence of fuzz at the time:

"Hang on to What We've Got" - Four Seasons
"A Taste of Honey" - Herb Alpert & the TJB

And on TV, the "Green Acres" theme (as played by Tommy Tedesco)
