[bomp] Average Funk

I can see the obvious "soul" influence, but I have heard the records. No
where in the same league as the Rationals or MC5. I think they were sort
of the other side of the Creedence "american music" coin. They got out
there and played for the earth dogs, and were well accepted. Lot of hype
too, but I think it was a home grown effort. Still ain't gonna change my
mind, but if that's what turns your crank, fine by me.

A few years ago, I was out in Pittsburgh hanging out with my then label
boss Gregg K at Get Hip. We watched a bunch of his music vids one night.
That Cincy Rock Fest was one I wanted to see again. I do have to say, we
were both on the floor in tears watching da Funk. Mountain wasn't much
less funnier. It was the Coop that I actually dug. I'd not paid much
attention to the early stuff. Heavily into Pink Floyd. When Alice gets
the face full of ice and doesn't blink made me appreciate him a lot
more.
