[bomp] CCR = WTF?/Bands With "Thee" In Their Name
<<Man, I can't believe all the CCR dissing on this board. To me, they
were clearly one of the great American R&R bands of the sixties and
easily one of the best Bay Area bands along with Sly & The Family
Stone. You mean y'all don't think that Who'll Stop The Rain or
Someday Never Comes are great songs? You're on a different planet
then me, then. Even their cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine
is pretty respectable for a bunch of white boys. And who listens to
CCR for guitar solos, anyway? Wrong band. And then there's the
fabulous one-note solo in Tombstone Shadow...
And about Ralph Gleason...this guy, who dissed CCRs rhythm section,
was a GRATEFUL DEAD fan. >>
It should be mentioned that Gleason wrote the liner notes to CCR's first album, although he spent more time talking about the San Francisco scene they came from than the band itself.
<<Anybody
else have that Rob Stoner album from way back when?>>
I do. PATRIOTIC DUTY, from 1980, on MCA. It's good to hear rockabilly done this unselfconsciously. I gotta hit the Internet and see what he's up to today.
And as far as Domenic's request for bands with the word Thee in their name...there was a band around 1975 called Thee Image...I'm assuming they were prog-rock since they recorded for a label owned by Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Manticore).
