Okay, I saw it with my own eyes and I'm ready to admit it now: The Effigies were not especially good.
Seeing them on any other night might've helped, but by 1a.m. last Saturday night, I'd seen a LOT of good bands.
The real deal came from Channel 3. I'd seen a short set of theirs last year at CBGB so I knew they still had a decent show--but this was outstanding.
Also gotta' give a nod to The Lords of Altamonte, that's some dirty-ass garage there. The only time I saw that Beatle Bob character this year...dancin' on stage w/ The Lords of Altamonte.
Earlier thatr night at the same showcase (Gearhead Records) we saw Gito Gito Hustler. Not sure how well they'd translate onto CD, but their live show is a real treat. Four little Japanese gals. I think the tall one is about 4' 10', but they really do put on a serious rock show.
It's all over now. I slept A LOT yesterday. Back to work........
