[bomp] Highs in the Mid-80s
A month or two ago, the first episode of my Highs in the Mid-80s podcast
appeared at www.garagepunk.com. That episode was NYC, Volume 1. There
*will* be a second volume. First, however, I'm working on a Long Island
volume, as that's where I grew up and first got turned on to all this
stuff. Pulling the Long Island stuff together has been both difficult
and simple.
The difficult part is that only a couple of the Long Island bands
released records: The Mosquitos, The Secret Service, and The
Vindicators come to mind. Of course, The Mosquitos record wasn't all
that good and The Vindicators managed to put the lyrics for four songs
on a 7" EP that only had 3 tracks. (And the first pressing had the hole
off-center.) Or at least, that's what my memory says. The Secret
Service record wasn't nearly as good as they were live, but at least it
was decent. For a better document, of them, dig up _Power And Volume_
on Snap! Records.
The easy part has been getting other recordings...OK, I don't have
everything yet (which is why this one's taking some time.) However, I
do have better Mosquitos' recordings, plus Vindicators, Secret Service,
The House Pets and The Press (two bands w/Evan Shore, later of The
Queers, The Voodoo Dolls, The Nines, and now Muck & the Mires), a band
called Abandon Here that I saw once, and many other cool things, thanks
to various friends...And, soon, some recordings by The Immortal
Primitives and some good quality material by The Plastic Device.
