[bomp] Updating Music
<<< On a Byrds comp that came out in the 80s, "Never Before", the drum
tracks on "Lady Friend" were replaced by new drum tracks with a generic 80s sound.
>>>
And let's not forget the 1987 reissue of 'Daydream Believer' with the new
drum track. (No, I take that back...*DO* forget that.)
But another Monkees-related example... Monkees fans know about how a
pre-Monkees recording by Micky Dolenz called "Don't Do It" was dug up and issued by
Challenge Records as a "Micky Dolenz" 45 in 1967 to cash in on The Monkees'
fame....But do you remember in 1986, when the Monkees were big again, there
was a *modernized* mix of "Don't Do It" released...the old record with new
drums and synth? I think it was a 12-inch with various dance remixes. I don't
remember the label.
Of course, there are those Mothers of Invention albums where the drums (and
bass) were redone in the 1980s...but I get the impression Chris, in his
initial post, was going more for cases of modern overdubs done solely for the sake
of trying to appeal to modern audiences.
