RE: [bomp] Radio Birdman
Nope- Not interested in teaching....Just interested in the tax money that
education budgets put on my property taxes here in NJ....The school budget
loses in the vote every year yet the taxes keep rising.....I'm getting
property taxed out in NJ but my job won't follow me if I move. And it's not
only teachers but other Government workers...I realize that teaching is a
hard job but so is the job that I do. And I only get 2 weeks
vacation....BTW, my brother and sister are teachers in NJ..Maybe the
administrators like superintendents and the like should be cut??? Sorry to
get off the music topic...

Trust me, my friend, had Birdman toured the US in early August, I'd've
followed them around the US. I came pretty damn close to flying out to
LA and heading up the West Coast as it was, but I had tons of prep work
to do, as well as some teacher's association business to deal with.
Yeah, it *is* nice having a couple straight months off. On the other
side of that, you absolutely *need* the time away by the end of the
school year. (I didn't really believe that when I was in the financial
world, but once I started teaching I understood completely.)
Personally, I don't have kids, so I choose not to work another job
during the summer. I work on my own projects and enjoy doing whatever
floats my boat.
I don't actually get a paycheck during the summer, as my district pays
us our salary twice a month over the 10 months of the school year.
Some districts give the option of getting paid over the 12 months.
Others give the option of getting a lump sum for the summer at the end
of the school year. Mine, however, does what they do, so I just have to
be responsible enough to take care of my cash situation.
But, hey, if you're interested in having the 2 months off, get into
teaching. Personally, I think it's a great job. I find it quite
fulfilling. I feel like I'm actually doing something worthwhile. But
if you can't deal with kids, don't do it. Also stay away if you're not
willing to really *do* the job. Some people just kinda try and get by
with the minimum and that's just wrong. [Note: Your first year or
three may be pretty hectic. It gets a bit easier as time goes on, but
those first few years will be quite tiring if you're really doing the job.]
