Happy Xmas Shindiggers, and hello to all of you ocassional visitors and
psychedelically inclined cyber surfers our new reviews and end of year polls
are now ready for your eager eyes. We hope you enjoy your visit, checking out
old features and reading the copious reviews, which if you didn't know go up
each and every month. Maybe you will return to use our "review search engine"
to guide you on that myriad journey of buying records and CDs. The site has
really taken off this year, and with the inclusion of advertisers (which is in
the early stages) we think 2007 will be our year, with a few major
developments taking place.
The bad news: the proposition of publishing a self-funded magazine in
the UK is a tough task, and at this moment in time we feel the need to take a
break from flats filled with paper. Okay, the last issue took two years to
come into fruition... and, maybe, that's the point! This "cooling off period"
is not to say the print issue is dead and buried. Let's just say the paper
magazine is being put on the back burner for a number of reasons. Why not
email us and let us know how much you love the magazine, what you would like
to see in it and that thousands of people you know want to buy it? Who knows
we may be back sooner than you think.
So slip your shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy our ever-expanding
website where you can enjoy monthly reviews and articles from our sold out
back issues. Feel free to email us with ideas for the site, reviews, recipes
etc ... we're open to submissions and are in need of more new writers, so if
you fancy yourself as the next Lester Bangs or Pam Ayres please email me. And
don't forget to sign up to our notification service to keep a handle on what's
going down in Shindigshire (to do so send an email to majordomo@cginet.com
with the words "subscribe mojo-list" in the body of the email). We don't want
you missing out on anything now do we?
One last thing, I'd very much like some feedback on our monthly review
section. I know you all like it, but I want specifics. Do the new reviews (alt
country/garage/power pop) resonate or are you mainly checking into read about
the re-issues? Likewise with the 1950s material. Do you read them? Do they
appeal? In short, should Shindig! continue to spread its wings and cover a
wide variety of music or should we concentrate on the real meat and veg ('60s
psych, sunshine pop, garage, soul, folk-rock; '70s rock, funk, cine-grooves,
power pop, soft sounds, acid folk and '80s neo garage/psych)? Please let me
know, we do these reviews for nothing, and I guess, down to me being a busy
parent, we don't want to cover superfluous stuff that doesn't interest the
majority. Email me at info@shindig-magazine.com and let me know. I look
forward to hearing what you think.
Stay cool and keep diggin' Shindig!
