1) depends on the quality of the cartridge and
analog->digital components of the unit. If you
already have a decent turntable you'd probably
be better off getting a preamp and a USB sound
device like an M-Audio Audiophile USB or similar.
2) if you're going to go though the time and effort
of digitizing your vinyl collection, don't rip
directly to MP3. Record to WAV/AIFF (at actual CD
quality) and archive it in a lossless compression
format like FLAC or APE. You can always make MP3s
from the archived copies without having to re-record
the original vinyl.
