Riot in Pasadena, California w/ cool '66 guests! (Saturday) Riot on
Sunset Strip: Rock 'n' Roll's Last Stand in Hollywood will make its return to
the Greater Los Angeles area this Saturday afternoon, from 4-6 p.m. at
Vroman's Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, California.
Special guests will be:
East Los Angles musician and historian Mark Guerrero (Mark & the Escorts'
"Get Your Baby"), plus surprise cameo appearances by members of a few prominent
East L.A. bands of the '60s (possible Premiers, Jaguars and El Chicano guys
pitching in).
John "Chris" Christensen from Long Beach garage combo Opus 1 ("Backseat '38
Dodge"), a record based on the Ed Keinholz assemblage art piece that was
banned from The Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1966 amid much controversy.
The 1960s proprietor of The Ice House (then, a music venue), Bob Stane.
House bands at The Ice House included The Association ("Along Comes Mary") and
The Deep Six ("Rising Sun"). Many of the artists featured on The Smothers
Brothers Comedy Hour, including musical arranger Mason Williams ("Classical Gas")
comedian Pat Paulsen, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band all called The Ice House
home back in the day.
Vroman's has been in Pasadena since 1894... you can reach them at (626)
449-5320, or on their website: www.vromansbookstore.com
It's real easy to get to, from the 210 Freeway, take the Lake Avenue exit
South to Colorado Boulevard, then head West for a few blocks. Vroman's is on
the North side of the street. The San Gabriel Mountains will be in the
background as you face the store from Colorado Boulevard.
