How many of you were aware that Chubby Checker of all people actually has a
*current* hit single? At least on the A/C charts?

I only recently found this out...He has a new song, "Knock Down The Walls,"
that's getting a pretty generous bit of play on the Adult-Contemporary
stations. Not too bad a song either, if not maybe a little overly
hit-conscious...but it's just the thought of the Chubster having something
resembling a hit
single in 2007 that I find amusing.

Start them out with the new movie ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.

I'm thinking of taking my kids to see one of those Beatles tribute
shows. The two acts that seem to play around our area are "1964" and
"Rain". Based on the names, I would guess that the former focuses on
merseybeat material while the latter goes more psyche, but I could be
way off base. Does anyone know the difference between these two acts,
and more importantly does anyone recommend even seeing this kind of
show? Other than for schlock value, has anyone enjoyed a tribute show?

On this list, maybe not, but I'd bet that if your kids are young enough,
they'd love a Beatles tribute act

Depends on the individual bands= though that probably goes without saying-and
they run the gamut from horrible to actually pretty fantastic.
I've always been entertained by them regardless of which end of that spectrum
they're on (for different reasons, of course!) And as far as the ones in the
middle- sometimes it's just fun to hear those songs live.

That's right, our favorite Garage Rock and Roll survivors will strut
their stuff in front of Conan Tuesday, September 11. And look for
their new platter, Psychedelic Sunrise, in stores next week.

Tune in or drop out.
