[bomp] Question for anyone who records/mixes at home computer

I downloaded Audacity and it doesn't seem that hard to operate, and I 
successfully copied a track onto it, but I need to record. The instructions 
say that my mics and/or direct lines will go straight into my sound card, 
but it doesn't say exactly how to hook up the input(s) or what kind of 
adaptors I need to make a 1/4 inch or XLR plug connect to whatever ports the 
card requires.

Anyone know about this?
