Riot on Sunset Strip on TV...
By the way, the reason everyone had a tape of it is 'cuz it was picked
up in 1987(?) by like Paramount's or like metromedia's "Movie Greats
Network" which is a syndication package of like 120 films that a TV
station gets to air over a year. I was looking through an old issue of
Boadcasting once and saw it on the list. (so maybe like 50-70 stations
across the country ran it that year)...
I have not seen it on TV since that time, so it's doubtful that it's been
shown since... however if multiple prints were struck of that film in 87
then you can bet there will be (film) copies floating around and it won't
take long to get re-shown...
To be honest, I'm not sure why some company doesn't just shell out the
several thousand dollars to officially license the film. I would be very
very surprised that whoever owns it is unwilling to license it for video...
Although I know Fox balked at Beyond the Valley of the Dolls for many
years... Oh yeah, the video vault in alexandria, va once had a film
transfer bootleg of Riot on ss, so I know that there's at least one sopy in
collectors' hands...
Give the rock and roll hall of fame 2 years to get their library working...
Don
ps- I also give a solid 2 thumbs up for Lord Love a Duck- verrry weird
movie- it really reminds me of Heathers for bizarro teenage action...
Roddy McDowell, Tuesday Weld, etc... I have only seen this once on
cable in the last 10 yrs...
pps- As far as a definitive guide to 60s rock bands in movies, I doubt
anything could be called definitive...
I've been trying to do one on TV shows until I hear someone mention
bands on Love that Bob, or the Joey Bishop sitcom, or F-Troop, or even
more obscure tv shows... I mean sure we recognize the Seeds when
they appear as the Warts, but is the band doing the Turkey in the Straw
rave-up on Beverly Hillbillies really who their drum kit says they are?
What bands ever appeared on the short-lived Good Morning World show
about the two disc jockeys?
