my mother's 1962 Garrard works like a dream, but she needs something
replaced every 5 years or so- of course the stereo cabinet is longer than
my car. in the Washington, DC area there is a chain called High Tech
Audio-video which when they first openened would sell stunning 60s/70s
Carver, Garrard, Polk equipment. Your audiophile $2000 tube receivers and
amplifiers sold used for $200. Currently their selection is nowhere near as
cool, but there are still bargains to be had.
a friend got an amazing turntable in which 4 curved "fingers" hold the
record up instead of a mat, Stereolab eat your heart out.
