Gainsbourg and more

If you wanna discover Gainsbourg at his best, check out the following stuff:

- Histoire de Melody Nelson (absolute out of time gem....)
- L'Homme a la tete de choux
- Vu de l'exterieur

As I ever said, Gainsbourg always had a sulfurous reputation in France,
because of his way of life, and of his lyrics...and it was not only in the
60s. I remember one of his hits , around 1986, that was called "Love on the
Beat", which made the top 5 here during weeks... It's in that kind of
situation that you see that France is far from being a puritain land...some
of the lyrics were :
"Des trois orifices que les Dieux t'ont donné
J'ai choisi le moins lisse pour m'abandonner"
which means " Among the 3 holes that the Gods gave you, I've choosen the
less smooth to come"... All the song is full of that poetry, and during all
the song you can hear Bambou (Gainsbourg's wife), crying, screaming,
yelling, just as if she was rapped by an entire army... I remember too this
beautiful sunday afternoon, when my parents , my little sister and I were
driving to my grandparents, and the car radio was on... the moment came
when of course, "Love on the Beat" was played...my parents were cool, but I
remember that they were silenciously expecting the moment when one of these
embarrasing questions would come from the kids, especially from my sister
who was 10 years old at that time.. and after 1 minute of Bambou's screams,
bingo " Why do the woman cries like that ?" asked my
sister......."Well.......she must be constipated" replied my father...and
that was all for this time...Gainsbourg made much more for the sexual
education of french kids than shool ever did...and what was cool with him
was that you could have all the details you never dared to ask to your
parents or your teacher...
But he was not the only guy of that sort in the 80s in France....I remember
having discovered loads of things listening to the radio when I was 11-12
years old (lesbianism with "Maman a tort" by Mylene Farmer -1984, SM with
"Etienne"-don't remember who sung that, transvestism with "Troisieme sex"
(3th sex) by Indochine..., etc, etc....and all made the top 3 !)
