Why do you always give so much importance to lyrics? It's all about the
groove and the music, especially with covers!! We had the same thing here as
you probably know, and so did every other country that didn't speak English!
You can't just call it yéyé shit! I'll never understand what you all have
against Bardot and France Gall. Denis was discussing this with me the other
day at Le Pick Up store, and he feels that just like here in Québec, France
seems to have a problem with it's 60's star system. The Brits or Americans
always seemed to do it better. It's the same reaction here: the 60's in
Québec were only mediocre bands in matching color suits and hair doing
American top 40 hits in French. So what? If the song was good in English,
turns out it's just as cool to hear in French, Italian or Yedish! There was
a great song by French cutie Violaine in 1967 called "cessez la guerre"
(Stop the War) where she sings: "Stop singing about your long hair and
flowered shirts, just sing! stop putting down the poor blond boy we all
listened to before you!"
(aka Johnny Hallyday)
Now that's poetry!
