I thought about this one, too... an easy start is The Fleshtones in
"American Beat" where they name-check a whole truckload of great ones.
(Steve Coleman probably has a list.) For that matter, they also mention
"Louie Louie."

Along the same lines, John Cougar did the same thing in "R.O.C.K. in the
USA."

One thing I wanted to avoid in the "Bands Naming Bands" bit were
self-referential songs, such as themes. 10-15 years ago, few bands had
their own themes, but for awhile in the early-mid 90s tons of bands had
their own themes. Personally, I long for the earlier ones (like the
original "Young Fresh Fellows Theme," or even the "Update (Theme).")
