My understanding is that "Sweet Home Alabama" was written as a direct
rebuttal to "Southern Man." In fact, there's one verse which goes:
Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her.
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down.
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
a southern man don't need him around anyhow.

Built to Spill is completely non-Bomp, but fuck that, because they're a
great band, and the album that "You Were Right" is on - their latest,
*Keep It Like A Secret* - is a great record. Nice to see other BTS fans
on the Bomp list.
If you want songs that reference other bands, just pick up anything by the
Dead Milkmen. They made their whole career on taking the piss out of the
punk/indie scene, classic rock, and various cultural sacred cows. If you
want just one example that's somewhat Bompish, there's "Beach Party
Vietnam":
Hey Frankie, aren't you gonna give me your class ring?
I'm afraid I can't do that, Annette.
Why not?
'Cause I don't have any arms!
Classic stuff. Ah, the Dead Milkmen. Brings back memories of high
school.
