Prisoners/April March still Ok with me
Considering some of the horrible crap that James Taylor has put out over the
last several years, it's amazing that the Prisoners could even rock the
slightest bit now. I think "Shine On" and the rest of that single are great
songs. The "indie rock" tag seems a bit harsh. I hardly think they deserve
to be lumped in with bands like Pavement and Sebadoh just because they don't
have the same raw reckless sound they used to.
The same can be said for April March. Maybe she once "rocked" harder than
she does now. I think her work with the Makers and Los Cincos was a huge
favor to both those bands. Both the said records that she sings on for
those bands would have sucked without her input. She's the only reason why
the Makers have ever put out anything even remotely stinking of class.
Maybe her poppy sounds now turn some of you "lost in the 60's" folk's
stomachs. I hardly doubt she'll lose any sleep over it.
I'd take either one of these artists/band's current material over the
diarrhea of zit faced teen garage compilations. More "Louie, Louie" please!
