This has probably been answered already, but . . .

Yeah, Jay and the Americans. I really only remember the song "Come A
Little Bit Closer," which was written by Boyce and Hart and released in 1964.
It had a kind of a Latin sound to it, I think. I also seem to recall
that some late incarnation of the band included Walter Becker and Donald
Fagan (later of Steely Dan). Could be wrong, though.

HI George
They are commercila pop group with orchestration.
They are not garage at all.
But I like tehir cover of [this magic morment/originaly by the driffters]
I think if you want garage music, you shoud not buy them.

I happen to have that Fogerty tribute since my own band, Teenage Kicks,
is on the same record label, Rubber Rabbit Rock'N'Roll Records (aka 5R),
that released the tribute. I don't have that cd with me at the moment but
I remember it features Girl Trouble, Peter Zaremba, New Duncan Imperials,
Jolly Jumpers, Cole Porters and several others. I have never been too
excited about tributes, but this is one of the best I have heard.

You can contact 5R by e-mail:

	miet@gaga.pp.fi

They also have a web page but I can't recall the address.
All the 5R releases are distributed in USA by Pravda Records.

Yours,

	Jude / Teenage Kicks

Thanks to Hitomi and all the other guys for their replies. I came across
the "sand of time " LP that has a really cool "in the spirit of the sixties"
cover that reminds me of cool garage or psych bands covers but this is not
the case inside the sleeve.... Indeed, many talented 60's bands had this problem.
They wanted to play original music but were pushed by their producer to cover
popular songs and to write pop tunes attempting to have hits. Then the company
guy would take the tapes and would add strings and horns making it sound more
commercial and easy listening..

Here! Here! We'll bring them in by the truck load (and we'll even drink
Stroh's, if absolutely necessary...)!

Browsing thru alt.music.banana-truffle on occasion reveals there's still a
diehard cadre of prince valiants in the northeastern US. Assuming Mike
Stax wasn't out there "scouting".

Kinda like the sad example of Tucson's Marshmellow Overcoat, who
tried to pull a Cynics and go ROCK as the Overcoat, only to find the
post-Daly City youth scoff. Now they're the Marshmellow Overcoat
again, and I'm sure only
Lee Joseph cares.

Barely adjacent to both threads, I saw the Bomboras (from LA) this
evening.
I'm sure having a go-go dancer (who was entirely too nice a person to
hafta work with those schlubs) will get them at the very least a photo in
a Shane
Williams column, but it won't get anyone to care. Only good thing I can
say is they were at least more interesting than Satan's Pilgrims (whom I
suffered through a third of a set of on Monday.) If you are gonna play
period instro-rock like this, you *better* be the fucking Phantom Surfers
(i.e. Have personality, an interesting presence, musical adeptness, an
unpredictable setlist & yeah, raccoon masks [as much as I loathe to do
so, I even hafta give Van or Astrovan some relative credit here, even tho
I think they're way too into Carrot-top prop rock and their witty stage
banter is far from ad-libbed.]) or you shouldn't torture us with some live
exercise.
Zero Kings hurried through a set to get outta dodge before these jokers
expressed themselves, and the Drags cancelled, so the evening was
quite the bust. Oddly enough, Lee Joseph puts out the Bomboras'
records.

Its been a long time between Stroh's. But maybe we can ship over a few
hundred cases of VB for the occasion.

Hi, Ralph Alfonso here;

Just a note that I'll be performing at CB's Gallery, Aug 6, in New York. I'll
be there with my bongo player Tom Harrison (ex-Bruno Gerussi's Medallion) and
guitarist Michael Rummen.

We'll be jamming with Agnelli/Rave: Lauren Agnelli (ex-washington Squares)
and Dave Rave (ex-Teenage Head, he played guitar on all their lps, then
joined them officially in the 80s, eventually becoming lead singer). We did
some amazing hi-energy shows together here in Vancouver, so I'm looking
forward to our 50s beat meets 60s garage fun-fest. (I will also do some
things off my Mod homage Olympia 66 EP).

We've also recorded together and co-wrote a great Brit-pop-jangly anthem
("Jangly Love Song") that will probably end up on my next CD. It's total
overload harpischord, tambourines, harmonies, etc.

Anyways, I know a lot of folks who know me from Diodes days on down are in
the NYC area, so hopefully you'll come down to say hello.

People still ask about those Haunted liner notes and I recently met Jurgen
Peter from the group about a month ago and had a massive conversation with
him. He's still musically active on a home studio level and the stuff he
played me sounded really good, very 60s Stones sounding.

Anyway, thought I'd mention this gig as it will be a lot of fun.

Ralph Alfonso
