Hi Hitomi

Thanks for the information. I have one put out by Etiquette prior to the
Ultimate Sonics release, I can't recall its name, but it has about
twelve songs on it. I also have an lp put out by Bomp in the early 80's
(Gerry Roslie is the only original Sonic in the lineup): it contains
quite a bit of their old repetoire and a couple on new songs. The Big
Beat release you mentioned sounds interesting. How might I go about
tracking it down? Is it a Japanese or European release?

Hi Ben
BIG BEAT CD is
Psycho Sonic CDWIKD115 This is including all of their etiquette recording
exept 2 songs.(It means their first 2 LP and some singles in'64 to '66)
You will hear the live version of PSYCHO and WITCH in it. They are most killer
stuff of Sonics.I think their LOUIE LOUIE is best version of all.

BIG BEAT is a branch of ACE LABEL in ENGLAND.
BIG BEAT has www home page .So if you can't find the CD at CD shop.
please accsess it. They accept online mail order, but I don't know whether they
 accept overseas order or not.
the address is

e-mail of ACEinformation is Info@ACERecords.co.uk.

                                      try it BYE BYE

That would work, but I think we'd all be pretty well lit just to have
the occasion.

Best regards, and hoping for an East Coast appearance,

A long time ago I heard of a Japanese book which gave discographies
and biographies for all the famous Japanese Groups Sounds bands
(Golden Cups, Jaguars, Tigers, Spiders, etc).

The original e-mail I have about it gives the title of the book but not the
publisher, which I need to be able to order it from the US.

Hitomi- Do you have this book? Do you know where I can order this
book? Do you have any idea how much this book costs in Japan?

I also liked the Tigers Movie and the Spiders Movie- Do you have any
other movies or TV performances by 1960s Group Sounds bands?
What about any video of the Finger 5? (for American Bompster the
Finger 5 were on par with the Brady Bunch/ Partridge Family)

Don,

This sounds eerily cool. Is it possible to find this stuff in the US?

Thanks for the info. guys,

I've got something that Etiquette put out a few years ago, not anything
that's been mentioned so far though (I acn never recall the name of the
thing). I'll have to check out Ultimate Sonics, though. I also keep
meaning to order a copy of that #1 Do the Pop with the articles on Radio
Birdman & Stooges. Hope you haven't sold out, I'll send a check this
weekend.

Thanks

Hey everybody,

I'm new to this list (and mailing lists in general), so bear with me if I'm
being redundant or if I'm doing something wrong.

Regarding reissues, does anyone know if the first two Saints Lps have ever
been reissued? I used to have the first one, but I lost it and now I only
have them both on tape.

Thanks!

both have been reissued on cd. i have them and they do sound good.
unfortunately they are imports & cost $20-25 each. believe it or not, i found
these at Tower records after being told by our local indie store that they
weren't available. not to toot their horn, but tower actually does mail order
if there's not one near you: 1-800-ask-tower.

can anyone tell me the skinny on the original sins? i just picked up a really
great single called "get you there" by them. does any of their other stuff
sound like this? all the stuff i had heard besides this was really noisy/ugly
sounding stuff, but this was really catchy, almost approaching "pop"

If I have time later this summer, I may do an O. Sins Web page. I've
been seeing these guys since they first decided to be a full-time band
about 8-9 years ago.

So... let's see...

The Original Sins formed (as a full-time band) after
leader/guitarist/vocalist JT recorded & released the "Just 14"/"Sugar
Sugar" 45 (Bar None) in late '86 or early '87. It was highly acclaimed
(I think it was NME that called it the "best punk single of the decade"
so far.) The sleeve featured a picture of a friend of JT's named Jill,
from her rifle squad days in 9th grade. Well, at that point, I believe
Jill was dating the singer of JT's then-band, The Creatures (now known as
The Creatures of the Golden Dawn.) The singer wasn't happy about it and
their was a split. JT quit the band. Bassist Ken Bussiere and drummer
Dave Ferrara decided to join him. They soon picked up organist Dan
McKinney and began to play not only some great live shows, but do
fantastic records.

The first LP, Big Soul (Bar None), was another critical success. It's a
fantastic record, alternating between punked out garage and bittersweet
pop. However, they had some disagreements with Bar None and left after
this record was out.

By this time, they had hooked up with manager Dave Stein. Stein formed a
record label, Psonik, and released the next bunch of Sins records,
including two of my favorites, The Hardest Way (their 2nd) and Move
(their 4th).

At this point, I've lost track of all the Sins releases... I'd say
they've got at least 6 full-length CDs out (possibly more), plus at least
9 45s that I can count (but probably more). Their next CD will be out on
Bar None again and may even be a double CD, featuring new work, plus a
rerecording by the full band of material JT recorded solo long ago,
called Bethlehem. (It was never released, but should have been.)

So... what do these guys sound like? Well, JT is one of the best
songwriters I've ever heard (and a fantastic guitarist to boot)... he
writes everything from bittersweet pop to searing punk, soulful ballads
to snarling garage, surf instro to garage pop, even regular pop rock and
power pop, not to mention bubblegum. (Check out their "Juicyfruit"/"Coca
Cola (Sweet)" 7" on Get Hip. Oh yeah, I forgot... some real psych stuff,
on occasion, too. And, yes, one or two noise fests. ("Black Hole" comes
to mind.. the song the band used to play when they didn't want to do an
encore.)

I've heard them cover everything from The Sonics to The Rutles to The
Dave Clark Five to The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, & The Saints, to
Wreckless Eric.

What to buy first?
My fave LPs:
1) The Hardest Way (Psonik)
2) Move (Psonik), comes as both a single CD and a doulbe LP
3) Big Soul (Bar None)

45s:
1) "Juicyfruit" (Get Hip)
2) "Just 14" (Bar None)

I can't pick a third, there are too many good ones.

Now... as to the noise bit, JT does solo records as Brother JT. In fact,
he even tours that way.

He also puts together other bands to do that kinda stuff.

By the way, The Original Sins also had an incarnation (w/out organ)
called The Rebeltones, doing rockabilly backing a friend of their's.
They were pretty good. I think I've still got the demo somewhere.

I believe that's everything under the name Original Sins.
He also has numerous solo albums under the name Brother JT on forced exposure
and a new one coming out in July on Drunken Fish records.
I'm in a project with him called Brother JT and Vibrolux an album on Siltbreeze/
Matador records most likely the "ugly/noisy stuff you dislike and a new one
being recorded next month, yes ugly and noisy.
Big Soul and Turn You On are probably the ones you'll enjoy most.
I hope that helps you out, cat. Later.

and sorry if i implied i didn't like the other stuff - i actually do. it
don't have to sound "pretty" for me to like it (i'm no wimp!) - perhaps "ugly"
was a poor choice of words.
