Years ago, on Rhino's Nuggets compilations, there was a volume on the Northwest. This volume had a track by
the Kingsmen called "I Guess I Was Dreaming". If I recall, the song was originally done by an English group. Can
anyone fill in the blanks on this track. Was it from an album? The group's lineup? Time of release?

Also, there was track on "Girls In The Garage" by the Models doing the alleged original version of "Bend Me, Shape
Me". Does anyone have any additional info on the Models?

thanks
Mark

This track is also on the Electric Sugarcubes Flashback CD. Quoting from
the liners: "I thought I was dreaming too when I came across this utterly
convincing cover of an obscure Fairytale UK art-pop song by, that's right,
those inept frat boys whom history is all to quick to write off as a
one-trick pony, though they made no less than 12 albums and more than 25
singles in their time. This however is a truly inexplicable artifact. And
guess what? It's the B-side of another UK psych cover, the equally obscure
Skip Bifferty "On Love" (which is also on the ESF CD).

On the way in to work this morning, I heard on the local radio that former
Animals bassist Chas Chandler died yesterday. Apparently Chandler was in
the hospital for some heart problems and had a massive heart attack.

Hello everybody! Allow me to introduce myself - my name's Glenn.
        I'm glad to be here!

        Pete sez...

Can anyone here recommend the new 3 Cd box set on Sundazed of The Beau
     Brummels? I only have the first 2 Lp's by them(which I love-on
CD-Sundazed) Is the box set a must, or is it just a lot of filler? I was
told by two different people that the first 2 Lp's are all I need. Is this
     true?

Well, I haven't purchased the box yet, but I am familiar with many of
the tracks on it already. I'd guess that if you like the first two
albums, you'd probably dig the box set. I'm looking forward to buying a
copy, myself. (As always, too much good music, too little $$!)

Hello to Lee and William! I'll be in contact with both of you soon.

I recently got a tape of a band called Powder from a friend. It's got some
pretty cool sounds on it and I think they were around in the late 60's.
Can anyone provide some background info on this group and a
     discography? Much appreciated.

There is a wonderful 27-track CD called "Biff! Bang! POWDER" on the
Distortions label (P.O. Box 1122, Bala-Cynwyd, PA 19004) that compiles
just about all known recordings by this band, as well as the pre-Powder
recordings by the Art Collection and post-Powder recordings by Thomas &
Richard Frost. There is also an extensive article (and flexidisc) on the
band in "Cream Puff War" issue #2 (349 Pineview Drive, Santa Clara, CA
        95050).

        If you dig Who/Small Faces/Creation-style Rickenbacker-and-Vox powerpop,
you'll really like this CD. Powder were probably the only "mod" band in
San Mateo, CA in 1967-68! They actually had a friend who was able to jet
over to London at whim (his dad was a commercial pilot) and buy them mod
        duds on Carnaby Street!

In 1993, I saw a one-off partial reunion of Powder, sponsored by Cream
Puff War, here in San Francisco. It was without a doubt one of the best
shows I have ever seen! (Unfortunately, the Syndicate of Sound, who
headlined that evening, were embarrassingly dull.)

VOXX has reissued the band's entire catalog (as well as spin off projects) on a CD. They did release an album
and as far as I know the CD contains it in i'ts entirety. The French version of "Purple Haze" should not be missed.
I got the disk from Bomp.

I've just picked up a book by Vernon Joynson titled "Fuzz, Acid and
Flowers." It purports to compile information about American psych and punk
bands from 1964 through 1975 (or 76), and lists recordings and so on.

I've only had this thing a day, but it's been a kick to look through. I
get a special charge out of some of the album covers he reproduces--really
jogs my memory.

I notice that this author is responsible for a couple other titles:

Flashback (a worldwide guide to 60s and 80s psych and punk), and

Tapestry of Delights (a guide to British beat, psych, progressive music
from 63-76).

Does anyone have a point of view about these books. I can pick up
Flashback for about $20 and the Tapestry title is around $45.

I read about this in the NY Times obituaries this morning.
Apparently, Chandler had gone in for some tests on an aortic aneurysm and
died on the table.

Next to his obituary was one for John Panozzo, original Styx
drummer (who died of some sort of gastrointestinal thing.)
