Alan,

The Cannibals are still active. The played a gig with the Witchdoktors
about three months ago in Brixton, S. London. A mate who was at the show
said they played rather poorly and sounded like a tired Pub Rock band. Not
sure who is in the band at the moment but knowing Spencer he will probably
be up to line-up #127. This man is the John Mayall of the London trash
scene. On a good night his band are superb (supporting the Cramps a couple
of years since) and on other occasions abysmal.

Did he ever tell you the story about Malcolm McClaren wanting him to front
the fledgling Sex Pistols! Apparently the carrott-topped-one approached
Roger Armstrong (Big Beat/Chiswick Records) at a Count Bishops show and made
an offer for Mike's services. Now that would have been an interesting
combination.

The thing is that Spencer takes *Punk* attitude a little too far. The last
time I saw them at the St Johns Tavern was on a freezing February night.
The weather kept many people indoors and the turnout was pretty bad. This
annoyed Spencer so much that he proceeded to alienate the punters by being
very obnoxious and made a real prat of himself. Which was silly as we had
all made the effort of fighting through blizzards and were undoubtedly on
his side. What is the point in abusing your fans?

Still the Cannibals have made some fine records over the years and I still
love to play them. They were an important catalyst on the emerging London
trash scene and Mike Spencer did a lot of good work. His 'Garage' club was
one hell of a place to go on a Friday evening and regularly featured bands
like The Milkshakes, Barracudas, Vibes, Sing-Rays, Bad Karma Beckons,
Surfadelics etc etc. Ah those were great days.

Okay special offer time in rememberance of those bands. The following
singles are available for postage costs to anyone interested. Unfortunately
they do not have picture sleeves but they are all in tip-top condition :

The Cannibals Good Guys b/w Nothing Takes The Place of You (Big Cock)
The Barracudas Summer Fun b/w Chevy Baby (Zonophone)
The Barracudas I Can't Pretend b/w The KGB (Zonophone)
The Barracudas Inside Mind b/w Hour of Degradation (Flicknife)

If you are interested then send me an e-mail and I shall go weigh them at
the Post Office and tell you how many IRC's to send. First come first served.

Steve

HAS ANYONE SEEN THESE???????????

I'm rabid for stuff like this! I've just heard about
a tape of The Music Machine on American Bandstand.

I also heard there is a surviving tape of The 13th Floor
Elevators on some local Austin teen dance show.

Anyone have any information on Dave Diamond and the Higher Elevations?

All I've heard is that he was an LA disc jockey who did things
way out things like "The Diamond Mine" in between bands
in trendy go-gos around LA in the mid sixties.

Is the "Diamond Mine" all he ever recorded? It sounds
like Dan Ackroyd impersonationing Jack Webb freaking
on windowpane.

Does anybody have any details of the 60's recordings of British singer Chris Farlowe? I just got the Immediate comp "The Soulful Chris Farlowe" and it's pretty fantastic, the best cuts sound like Otis Redding fronting the Walker Brothers with orchestration by Phil Spector!!

Thanks,
